Heroic dog saves boy from rattlesnake bite

MONROVIA, CA - A Siberian Husky named Boone is a local hero after risking his life to protect his 14-year-old owner.

Boone and his owner, Daniel Whitman, were in the backyard of their Monrovia, California home when the five-year-old dog jumped between the unsuspecting boy and a coiled rattler.

"I was actually cleaning up after the dog and I heard him run to the corner of my eye," Daniel said. "I looked over and I saw the rattle of the rattlesnake start going off," said Whitman.

According to the Monrovia Patch, Whitman ran back inside at the sight of the snake and Boone followed soon thereafter. However, when Boone began acting peculiar minutes later, the Whitmans suspected something was wrong.

"There didn't appear to be anything physically wrong with him," Whitman's father told the Monrovia Patch. "He started to kind of twist his head funny and look up at the ceiling like he was in pain."

Go Bananas!

Go Bananas!

Originally grown around Malaysia, bananas made their way to India and eventually to the West, but it was not until 1876 that Americans first tasted the banana. They were served in Pennsylvania at a celebration of the hundredth anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. And we’ve been finding innovative ways to eat and serve them ever since!

Luckily, bananas are available year round. Although they may be green or greenish yellow in the store, they are ripe when they are fully yellow. Never ripen in the refrigerator, only at room temperature. If not using right away once they are ripe, you can store in the refrigerator, but know that even though the skin will turn black, the flesh of the banana is fine underneath. Another option is to peel and freeze until ready to use.

Look for Whole Trade bananas, available only in Whole Foods Market® stores... Read More

Discussion: Wedding Days of Summer

Discussion: Wedding Days of Summer

By Ashley Bradley

Spring has sprung and summer is just around the corner, which can only mean one thing: its wedding season. I am not sure when it happened, but I seemed to have reached a stage in my life where most of my friends are either in long-term relationships awaiting engagement, are engaged or are already married. And even if they are single, they are planning a grand wedding via Pinterest. As I am sure most twenty- and thirty-something-year-olds can attest, it is common to attend so many weddings it feels like you’ve memorized the inventory at Crate and Barrel and you’ve racked up enough hotel points to stay at the Ritz.......
